Legal Limit for Motorcycle Tyres

The legal limit for a motorcycle tyre is at least 1mm of tread depth of the original tread pattern across a continuous band of at least 75% of the breath of the tread and also round the entire circumference of the tyre. The motorcycle tyres also need to be inflated to the correct pressure. We would recommend that you do not run your bike with the tread so low.

Motorcycle tyres have on the side wall a TWI mark that correspond to wear blocks in the tyre showing the minimum recommended level. If the raised area of the block is close to the tyres surface this tyre needs replacing soon.

Check your Motorcycle Tyres Regularly

Motorcycle Tyre Wear Test

You need to make regular checks of the tyres as there are many factors that can affect your braking and handling performance on a motorcycle. You need to check for damage, tread depth, wear pattern and tyre pressure. These will all affect the level of grip and feel of your motorcycle. A motorcycle with new tyres can transform the ride when compared to an old tyre with uneven wear.
