Yamaha rider Ben Spies was fortunate to escape serious injury when he hit a wall after crashing during the British MotoGP at Silverstone.
The Texan was involved in a fierce battle with Nicky Hayden and Colin Edwards for fifth in the early stages.
But just as Spies had settled into sixth position on the track, he fell off his bike, crossing the gravel and hitting the wall.
Spies was taken to the medical centre for precautionary scans of his back and neck, but was subsequently given a clean bill of health.
"The track was really wet, when I hit the brakes going into turn one the front just dropped away and I hit the wall before I knew it," he remarked.
"I hit my back pretty badly, my back protector is really busted up, but it did its job."
Meanwhile, team-mate Jorge Lorenzo also crashed out of the British MotoGP at Silverstone, thereby losing his place at the top of the standings to Casey Stoner.
