Introducing the Yamaha R6

As the motorcycle that won the Daytona 200 in 2010, there's no doubt that the Yamaha R6 - otherwise known as the YZF-R6 - is one of the best sports bikes on the market.

First released in 1998 as the sport version of the R1 super bike, the Yamaha R6 is perfectly suited to both the road and the track. It offers a powerful and exhilarating ride and is a reliable form of transport in any conditions.

A lightweight and compact - but very powerful - motorcycle, the Yamaha R6 has been designed to be one of the most advanced bikes ever produced.

As standard, the YZF-R6 comes with a 599cc liquid-cooled four-cylinder engine with 16 titanium valves and a compression ratio of 13:1:1. The combustion chamber is made more space-efficient with the inclusion of domed pistons and valve cut-outs.

The five-spoke wheels measure 17 inches and their design has been carefully crafted for good looks and perfect performance. The fork and back shocks are four-way adjustable, ensuring you have a smooth ride, while the dual front disc brakes offer fast reaction times.

The end result is a bike with 122 horse power and 65.8 Nm torque. In addition, it gets an estimated 40 mpg, making it a fuel-efficient option for this type of bike.

Of course, the look of the bike is important too, and the Yamaha R6 is also a sleek and stylish bike with graceful lines and an aerodynamic appearance. The 2011 Yamaha R6 is available in black, blue or white.

Although it's a sports bike, it's also designed to be comfortable. There's a digital lap timer, which is controlled by a switch in the handlebar, while the digital instrumentation is easy to read, so you can keep your eyes on the road.
